Brandfindr is built on a simple belief — that conscious consumers deserve the full picture, not just the parts that make a brand look good.
Brandfindr started with a frustrating moment — seeing a brand on Instagram and never being able to find it again. But as we built the directory, we realized the problem was bigger than discoverability. It was trust.
Most brand directories are promotional by nature. They list the good stuff. They hide the bad stuff. They have financial incentives tied to the brands they feature. Consumers are left navigating a landscape where every source has an agenda — the brand's own website, paid influencer posts, review platforms that can be gamed, certification bodies with their own limitations.
Brandfindr is our attempt to build something genuinely different. A platform that surfaces great brands AND their legitimate criticisms. That respects institutions without blindly trusting them. That takes holistic and alternative perspectives seriously without amplifying misinformation. That appeals to everyone — regardless of where they fall on the spectrum of trust in mainstream systems.
"The best brands for people and planet are the hardest to find. Brandfindr fixes that — and tells you the full truth about what we find."
Every brand, platform, tool, and resource listed on Brandfindr is evaluated through three distinct perspectives. We present all three without telling you which one is right.
We apply these lenses to the brands we list AND to the institutions we cite. If we reference the BBB, we also tell you that 67% of business owners question its credibility. If we reference the FTC, we acknowledge that some consumers distrust federal regulatory bodies entirely. If we cite a Reddit thread, we acknowledge that Reddit communities can become echo chambers. No source is above scrutiny — including us.
Brandfindr presents information and perspectives. We never tell you what to buy, what to believe, or who to trust. The decision is always yours.
Listing a brand on Brandfindr doesn't mean we endorse it uncritically. Every listing includes what we know about its limitations, controversies, and legitimate criticisms alongside what makes it worth knowing about.
We reference the FDA, FTC, EWG, B Corp, and BBB as useful signals — but we also document their known limitations and credibility questions. An institution endorsing something doesn't make it automatically true or safe. An institution criticizing something doesn't make it automatically wrong.
Traditional medicine, ancestral health practices, and community wisdom have value that peer-reviewed studies don't always capture. We include these perspectives alongside conventional science without elevating one above the other.
Healthy skepticism of institutions is rational and well-founded. Conspiracy theories that contradict overwhelming evidence are not. Brandfindr welcomes the former and doesn't platform the latter. We won't publish claims that vaccines cause autism or that the earth is flat — but we will document legitimate critiques of regulatory capture, corporate influence on science, and institutional bias.
Brandfindr has biases too. We are drawn to indie, sustainable, and values-driven brands. Our scoring system reflects editorial judgment that others might weigh differently. We acknowledge this openly rather than pretending to be a neutral algorithm.
Brands cannot pay to be featured more prominently, to receive a higher Brandfindr score, or to have negative information removed from their listing. Our editorial independence is non-negotiable.
If a brand we've listed is exposed for greenwashing, a certification is revoked, or new information changes the picture — we update the listing promptly and transparently. We'd rather be corrected than be wrong.
Every brand receives a Brandfindr score out of 100 based on four metrics and a separate Community Support Score out of 40. Here's exactly how it's calculated — no black box.
Discoverability is weighted highest because it's our core mission — surfacing brands that can't be found elsewhere. A brand available in every Target and ranking on page one of Google will score lower here than an equally good brand that only exists on Instagram.
The Indie Score reflects our belief that small, founder-led, bootstrapped brands deserve amplification. This metric decreases as brands scale, take VC funding, or get acquired by large corporations.
We acknowledge that this scoring system reflects our editorial values and that others might weigh these factors differently. It's a starting point for discovery, not a definitive judgment.
If you found something on Instagram that belongs on Brandfindr — a brand doing things right that nobody can find — tell us about it.
